![]() It is another chance for our amazing community to come together in celebration, and at Nectar, we intend on celebrating! This year, and once again every one of your local Nectar locations are going to celebrate this 4/20 the only way we know how for our community. more. Our most favorite holiday is around the corner, and we at Nectar could not be more excited. One thing no one tells you though, is once you move on to another shop and start sharing that you worked at Nectar… You’ll almost always get some type of sigh or offhand comment because honestly, most people don’t think highly of corporate cannabis. They also tend to promote from within, so starting out in an entry-level position does not mean that you will be stuck in that same position for long. However, since they do have a multitude of teams, stores and departments, there is a lot of room for growth and you’ll find a lot more opportunities at Nectar than you would at a mom and pop type shop. ![]() This is because they have various teams in their warehouse (outside of the stores) that take care of everything from intake and joint rolling to packaging and inventory management. However that role really is just a glorified budtender, because you don’t learn anything you need to know to run an actual dispensary. I was there for a little over two years, and worked my way up to store manager. However if you’re trying to get a shift covered, it’s not always a guarantee. Basically what I’m saying is that if you wanted to pick up a bunch of shifts at other stores, they make it really easy to get more hours. At the time of my employment, they used a very effective program called Deputy for scheduling and it also allowed for communication between the stores. They go above and beyond with employee education, it does not end at training but continues throughout the entirety of your employment with them. Nectar is a great company for someone who is just starting out in the cannabis industry. ![]() I highly recommend avoiding Nectar unless absolutely necessary, there are much better paying workplaces in the area that will treat you with more respect. Every employee cited the same issues, pathetically low pay and excessive responsibilities. The only place I have experienced the same level of turnover was working at Fedex. My team size averaged around 5-6 people, and our team also had about that many people flee from the company in my time there. For the low wage, I was also expected to do the work of multiple other departments. Management was awful, and my understanding is most departments across the administrative part of the company have lazy, unsupportive management. I worked at Nectar for over a year, and never received even a small pay rise, although was promised one several times over the course of my time there (meanwhile inflation kept rising steadily). Disorganization is central to the company culture, meanwhile there is a very high expectation for a small and stressed team. ![]() The pay was at the bottom end for this kind of position in the region, and it does not at all match the responsibilities of the job. I left a few months ago and am very happy I did. I took this job when I was just trying to get into the IT field, and figured it would be a good stepping stone to another position. Overall, the company is decent, however, difficult to grow with dependent on your aspirations and expectations of salary. HR is caring and will work with you to find a different position within the company if you prove to be a valuable/motivated employee. Working holidays typically gives you a larger average from $55-$25 tips per shift. Depending on the store location and # of staff (split tips equally with coworkers) you can make an average range of $35-$3 per shift. At times it feels like a popularity contest in regards to who is chosen for management positions or employee of the month, sometimes a lead (manager) is chosen only for them to last several weeks before getting demoted or quitting which results in it being difficult to connect with management. Long term, I wouldn't say it's as easy to advance positions while working for the company as they claim during training to new-hires. Nectar began as a great opportunity for me as an entry level budtender within a new city/market, however, as time passed I felt my assets and knowledge were wasted along with my efforts commonly went unappreciated granted, there were some amazing coworkers both budtenders and managers who helped me grow as an employee and individual.
